Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Skill Development Laboratory
GEC B.P. Mandal
Akademika established a complete FTTH training and testing facility in Bihar to support India’s mission of connecting every home with high-speed fiber broadband. The lab helps students and technicians gain hands-on field skills required for deploying and maintaining Fiber to the Home (FTTx) networks — the backbone of 5G and next-gen connectivity.
Practical Skills Developed
1. Fiber optic theory, optical power & signal quality measurement
2. Handling fiber safely — bend radius limits, connector care, cable protection
3. FTTH network design using geospatial planning tools
4. Cable laying: aerial, duct, blowing & trenching techniques
5. Fusion splicing, connectorization & insertion-loss testing
6. OTDR and VFL-based fault detection
7. Preparing & documenting network rollout projects
Lab Infrastructure & Tools Provided
1. Dual-wavelength Laser Source & Detector
2. SM fiber spools: 100m, 500m, 1000m
3. CWDM training system with GUI
