RF & Wireless Communication Laboratory
Birla Institute of Technology (BITS) Mesra – Ranchi
Akademika has established a high-performance RF & Wireless Lab at BITS Mesra to train students in microwave engineering, antenna testing, RF circuit design and wireless communication measurements.
The facility enables real-time RF experimentation across UHF, L and S bands, allowing researchers to design, analyze and validate RF systems end-to-end.
Major Lab Capabilities The lab includes:
1. RF Circuit Design & Testing using our RF Trainer platform for transmission lines, matching networks and amplifier characterization up to 2 GHz
2. Microstrip Component Design & Analysis (Filters, Couplers, Mixers) up to 3 GHz on a rugged gold-plated trainer board
3. Automated Antenna Measurement System supporting radiation pattern plotting, co/cross-polarization & gain evaluation up to 4 GHz
4. Vector Network Analysis for S11/S21, Smith chart and impedance measurements from 1 MHz to 3 GHz
5. Spectrum Monitoring & EMI Pre-Compliance Testing from 9 kHz to 3.6 GHz
6. RF Circuit Simulation with S-parameters, transmission lines & active devices
7. Antenna & Propagation Simulation including RCS, arrays, and urban wireless modeling
Hands-On Learning Outcomes Students gain proficiency in:
1. Measuring return loss, VSWR & S-parameters
2. Antenna pattern analysis beamwidth, F/B ratio, polarization
3. RF filter and coupler bandwidth & insertion loss testing
4. Wireless propagation behavior & inverse square law validation
5. EMI troubleshooting and interference studies
6. Simulation-to-hardware validation workflows
