Real-Time Pulse Radar Training System
Designed for Air Force Technical College Bengaluru
This real-time pulse radar training system enables Air Force trainees to learn radar fundamentals through live signal detection, analysis, and visualization inside a controlled indoor environment. It is capable of detecting small aerial targets within a 3D space and provides real operational performance — not computer simulations.
A large Master Controller Display gives instructors full control of the radar, while multiple cadets can simultaneously access the live radar data stream for hands-on exercises ensuring effective group-based radar training.
Key Technical Highlights
1. Real-time Pulse Radar operations no sub-sampling
2. Close-range aerial detection up to 25 meters
3. High-accuracy range resolution better than 11 cm
4. Pulse Width: 0.5 ns
5. Live signal processing via DSP hardware
6. Visual scopes: A-Scope, B-Scope, PPI Display
7. Safe operation with low-power emission
All signal parameters Pulse Repetition Frequency (PRF), Tx power, and radar gain are adjustable for realistic performance tuning.
Training Scope & Learning Outcomes Air Defence trainees gain direct experience on:
1. Pulse transmission & echo reception
2. Radar range measurement & calibration
3. Doppler fundamentals (moving vs static target)
4. Noise filtering & STC control
5. Detecting small RCS targets (corner reflector supplied)
6. Real-time signal transformation using FFT
7. Clutter identification and suppression
8. Radar target interpretation on A/B/PPI scopes
This ensures strong practical understanding of Air Defence radar operations and target tracking.
